Your first recording

Hold a key, record, and get back finished writing from your filter.

Written by Dolfinspeak Support

Once Dolfinspeak is installed, you're ready to record. A recording can be you talking on your own, a call, a lecture, a video or a room full of people. It all works the same way.

Choose what to record

Dolfinspeak can record your Microphone, the System audio playing on your computer, or both mixed into one recording. Both are on to start with. You can switch either one in Settings → Audio. At least one stays on.

There's no meeting type to pick. When both sources pick up speech, the transcript labels them You and Them.

Record

  1. Click into the app where you want the result to go.

  2. Hold the Option key (either side) on a Mac, or Right Alt on Windows, and start recording.

  3. Let go of the key when you're done.

For a longer recording, you don't have to keep holding the key. While holding it, tap Space to go hands-free. Press the key again to finish. Press Escape to cancel a recording and throw it away.

What you get back

When you finish, Dolfinspeak turns the recording into text and runs it through a filter, which writes the result. Unless you've picked another one, that's Clean up, your Default filter. The result is pasted where your cursor is, copied to the clipboard and saved in History. You can change where results go in Settings → Delivery.

To get a different kind of result, see Choosing a filter.
